Whether a barbell or dumbbells are better depends on your fitness goals, preferences, and specific exercises. Barbells are great for heavy compound lifts like squats, deadlifts, bench presses and lunges like I’m doing in the pic!
Barbells allow you to lift heavier weights and target multiple muscle groups at the same time. When I’m doing a lunge I’m focusing on engaging my core, glutes and quads.

Dumbbells, on the other hand, offer more versatility for unilateral exercises, isolating smaller more specific muscles like biceps during a bicep curl and providing a greater range of motion for certain exercises. Ultimately, it’s best to incorporate both into your workout routine for balanced strength development.

I enjoy incorporating a variety of equipment into my workouts, and post partum I chose to emphasize on exercises using the barbell and that helped me the most in regaining my core strength, stability and helped the most with weight loss.

This is what a sample barbell workout looked like:

-Hip Thrusts
-Back Lunges
-Bench Press
-Bent Over Rows
-Landmine Squat Press
-Roll Outs

I complete about 4-5 sets of 6-12 reps or more for each exercise, depending on how much weight I’m using.

I keep these exercises consistent every week so I could track my progress (little check-ins for myself):

Am I feeling stronger? ✅
Have I been adding more weight to the bar?✅
Do I feel my core engaging better during heavier lift?✅
Am I getting less back pain? ✅
Is my muscle definition showing more, is my waist getting tighter?✅

Doing these exercises also keeps my heart rate high which helps burn a lot of calories. This helps a lot especially when i’m limited in time.
