For people meeting me as a trainer for the first time their most commonly asked question is
“how do I get rid of my belly fat”?
Eating healthy and exercising are key to losing belly fat but WHAT foods and exercises specifically?
Everyone responds differently to certain foods and with the results I’ve seen from my own choices and many of our clients-
I’ve put together some suggestions that I’d definitely recommend making them part of your lifestyle especially if your struggle is burning fat through the midsection!
Here are my top food choices for burning belly fat:
Lean proteins:
Egg whites
Chicken breast
Plain Fat Free Greek Yogurt
Salmon
Healthy Fats:
Peanut Butter
Avocado
Olive oil
Almonds
Healthy Carbohydrates:
Oats
Sweet potatoes
Spinach
Bananas
These foods can help keep your blood sugar levels steady, keep you satiated longer and most importantly help build and preserve lean muscle mass and lower body fat.
Of course, the right portion sizes of these foods and the right combination of these foods together are important, not to mention exercise!
Stick to a weight training routine at least 4 days a week and incorporate cardio 4 days a week as well.
We need a full body strength training routing where all muscles are trained (not just sit ups and crunches every day) and a combination of low intensity cardio with high intensity interval training.
Here is a sample meal plan to follow:
Breakfast: Egg whites with Oats and Peanut Butter
Lunch: Salmon with Sweet Potatoes
Dinner: Chicken breast with a Spinach and Avocado Salad using Olive Oil as a dressing
Snack: Greek Yogurt with Banana and Almonds
